Since army life in the Indians wars was better than being a slave and whites could desert and blend in with the population blacks stayed in the army becoming a first rate professional army more so than whites who got discharged?

To a former slave the hardships of frontier soldiering had advantages of steady pay advance in rank and retirement pay so many chose to be career soldiers while whites could get better pay or desert and not get caught in civilian life in the west for they could blend in, therefore, these segregated black regiments of soldiers with 10,15 or 20 years service would have been a much more professional and better trained regiments than the white regiments where few soldiers elected to stay in as career soldiers. I read these statistics and logic would dictate that black regiments were better trained and disciplined due to years in grade and service than the white regiments were.

A very interesting observation. Things like this should be taught in school.

I give a fig for studying your history of the western Indians wars and the U.S.Army particularly General George Custer and his 7TH Cavalry, the American movies show this unit as elite and professional winning many battles against superb Indian horsemen whose whole persona was that of warrior but the record of history show that 7Th had only one victory when they attack village of Cheyenne that consist of old people, women and children all slaughtered by Custer's 7TH, then their next engagement was Little Big Horn where modern battleground forensics prove that the Indian's claim, which was rejected a century ago was correct, that it took them no longer than it took a hungry man to eat his lunch to wipe out this crack elite bunch of brave fighting men fighting to the death under flag as American movie portray. Further study shows that the Black soldiers were far more respected by the Indians for their bravery and fighting prowess with fewer being killed. In my study I also found that the US Army had 20,000 soldiers chasing what amounted to a few hundred Apache warriors under Geronimo who still manage to plunder and murder American and Mexican alike until a Lt. Gatewood mounted unit of black Indians scout and a black cavalry unit that reined in these brave and tough warriors. I am here to study military history of America and from movie that have been made the facts of history show that your racial prejudice has hid the truth and I report the truth in the work I compile brave is brave no matter the color but lie to make coward who kill old and babies brings shame on you who no give a fig for you are the paper lion. My grandfather fought SS German in WWII and he said courage count not color for when SS came American white soldier ran leaving Polish paratrooper who no run from SS but when black soldier attack SS they run in fear.I'm finding that before Vietnam war American Army cover up truth and I want TRUTH!!
