Some say they crossed the Bering Strait in canoes but once reaching land they walked south.

    Walked on foot

The Native Americans didn't come from North America.  And they didn't come from South America.

They came to North America during the ICE AGE and walked across the frozen Bering Strait .  Canoes don't work real good on ice.
