      I think they are similar expressions.....How do you do?  How are you?  Hey ya'll?  How's she going?  What's happenin?  Hey?  What's goin' on?  What's goin' down?  How ya'll doin'?


      .....and then sometimes people don't even respond!      LOL!

        The way I understand it, there is no difference between how do you do and how are you.
