I've tried everything and I just can't get it to work . I get so far and then message about "there is no application associated with this file run application then open it in that program" or " enter the URL of the midlet that you would like to install"

You need to have one of these installed on the PC:

Use the File Explorer of the sync program to drap/drop the files to the root of the device. With File Explorer of the device, locate and tap the JAD file to install. You will find the Java menu in the Programs screen.
FYI: to determint the WinMo version, Go to Start>Settings>System>Device Information.
