Cleaning browser's browsing history can be done by clicking the keys combination 'Ctrl + Shift + Delete', and then the 'Clear browsing data' button.

I always click on : Tools, Internet Options, click Delete on Browsing history. Press OK before exiting. Hope this helps. But, I will remember also what Rob Green had mentioned above.

Just a note, on Google Chrome, you have to click on the wrench symbol on the far right of the browser, under that you will see History. Click history, then select, "delete all" or check mark only the ones you want deleted, then click, "delete selected".
