The sad truth is that back in the day when slavery was common place, black African tribal leaders sold the members of OTHER black African tribes, that they had taken in battles, to slave traders around the word
Over the years the slave trade became a cruel blessing to their succeeding generations.
Over time they all ended up as free men, in other countries later on.
For those sold as slaves, not so much
Sadly the practice continues to this day in Africa and other counties around the world, with the selling of woman and children.
