The shortest straight line drawn from any point to the given surface is the perpendicular line.
Remember! the perpendicular line always makes an angle of 90 degree with respect to the given surface.

Confused the buggery out of me zenius, what if the given surface is vertical surely the line drawn is horizontal?
Whether the surface is vertical or horizontal, it does not matter. If you are confused, then try it. You will surely obtain the perpendicular line. Rather think! rationally.
