        HI  I ASSUME YOU ARE REFERRING TO A VEHICALE GEAR BOX IN WHICH CASE OVERDRIVE ARE EXTRA GEARS WHICH ALTER THE RATIOS ENGINE REVS TO SPEED THIS GIVES MORE SPEED FOR LESS REVS OR MORE MPG AS THE ENGINE IS WORKING SLOWER FOR A GIVEN SPEED
