5d in the UK would have been equal to 2p now, you couldn't buy much with that in 1970.
Maybe a box of matches, I think a mars bar was about 8d ( 8 old pennies) =5p (5 new pence).

5 Park Drive cigarettes were sixpence, I remember that well, wish I'd never started.
Yep, I remember it well,I worked on a milk delivery van then as a schoolboy, 4 in the morning till school time, my wages were £3 a week, my tips always more than doubled that, good times,my Mother earned £8 a week in a full time job.
