I have had a similar problem and solved it by making a torch from a stick (long enough to get to them) with a rag tied to it, and drain oil on rag. I made sure nobody was with me, and best after dusk. I lit it and let the smoke smoulder to infuse the hive with smoke, I then got a large garbage bag and cut nest from tree and tied it within the bag. I then disposed of it. No stings!
