The roots of American gospel music can be traced back to around 1619, when Africans were brought the the USA as slaves. Their special singing and music are considered to be the basis for what is defined as gospel music. No particular person is considered the first to sing gospel, because its evolution was gradual. Gospel music was allways sung by many Christians through the years.
