    book or reserve a ticket.

You can book a flight, read a book, pay a book (short for bookie), keep a book, count a book, etc.  You need to be more specific...

Book -written or printed work consisting of pages fixed together ...register on ones arrival at hotel..buy tickets...go by the book..in a persons bad book....good books disfavor or favor...throw the book charge or punish ....booking bookable

Book ?  Who needs books when you can watch the movie version ?

a book is a collection of written words, printed, illustrated, on paper or other material, hinged/bound together.

If you are booked by the police, you are likely to get a ticket.

Players booked by the referee will be punished for their foul.

Well with all the e-readers, iphones, downloadable 'books' i can see why in the future if not already this question just might pop up regarding paper and glue bound books..

But in this case, I think 'reservation' is the answer..
