There are two versions. The "officail" one that says the jet fuel and heat of the fire melted the steel structures in the towers.
or
There were explosives preset in the towers that caused them to collapse into their own footprints as only a controlled demolition could do.

The Towers were designed to collapse into a heap as they did when a large aircraft would collide with the towers at 1/3 rd of the total hight thus providing justification for going to war against someone.
