I have always been told that red, yellow, and blue are the primary colors, and from those three, plus tints of white and shadows of black, create all the colors on our palette. There are no colors you can mix to crat blue.
Blue and red make purple. Blue and yellow make green. Red and yelllow make orange. Those three are the secondary colors. The color that contrast with red is green (made from blue and yello). Purple contrasts with yellow, and orange contrasts with blue. Brown is red, yellow, and blue together. Adding white to any color will lighten it up or create a pastel shade. Adding black will darken any color.
Get some acrylic paint....red, yellow, blue, white, black. Try mixing a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Have fun.
