I live in Tucson and for the last two nights we had a monsoon and last night quite a bit of wind.

Last night my tortoise wouldn't go in his kennel which is under sheets of styrofoam. This morning he was still out and very muddy. I hosed him off with warm water and dried him and put him in a box on the patio. His kennel was muddy and that is why he didn't want to go in there. Other people have written about their tortoises staying out in the rain. That may be the reason. They don't like mud.

Read about tortoise as a pet:  http://www.petcaregt.com/Turtle/Do-Tortoises-Make-Good-Pets.html Apparently, they like mud.....

Perhaps he knew his nest was dangrous- all of that water and mud could have drown him or gotten him stuck.  Animals are really pretty smart!
