    making engine preform better

    i have a ford ranger truck with over 62k miles. do i need anew engine with 0miles or can i use the one that already in it. its a 4cyl and i would like to keep it 4cyl.

    No need to change engine unless it is giving you trouble.To keep it running for a long time you need to follow manufacturer's maintenence guidlines in owner's manual.If it was not well maintained you may need to replace the engine.Have your mechanic check it over before you buy it.If you already own it have mechanic do a cylinder compression test.This is one of a handfull of tests to check the engine's condition.

    You do not say what year this unit is,but changing the engine solely because it has 62k on it is a tremendous waste of money.If better fuel economy is what you seek,a high flow air filter(at most auto parts stores)will help.Also using the correct motor oil weight,clean filter(oil and fuel)and driving without a heavy foot will give you better economy.Also tire inflation,easiest to check & free to adjust.
