One of my cats did that, she damaged it so much in the end the vet had to take it off.In her case it seemed to be either stress or attention seeking. The vet did say it can be caused by mights some times.
Best take her to the vet they may be able to give her some medication to calm her, poor little thing,hope you get it sorted,
