    An aria is a self-contained piece for one voice, usually with orchestral accompaniment.  Examples: "Every Valley shall be Exalted" and "The Trumpet shal Sound" in Handel's "Messiah".


    Opera is an art form in which singers and musicians peform a dramatic work combing text and musical scsore.  Examples: Marriage of Figaro and The Magic Flute.
