    is there a connection between religion and mental illness.i have a family member who does not fit in with society and has now turned to religion.

      I do not think there is any link between the mentally challenged and religion. However, if capable many of these people find strength and hope in religion just as you and I may given the chance. You do not need to be a genius to love and have faith in a divine compassionate GOD.
