English word = friend
Hawaiian words = Hoaloha or Makamaka
Hoaloha literally means "beloved friend" (notice the 'aloha' in "hoaloha" meaning love). Kona hoaloha would mean "my beloved friend".
Makamaka means like friend, buddy or pal. Ho'o makamaka means to befriend someone or to make a friend.
