It is said that in the Northern Hemisphere that water will spin counter-clockwise down a draina nd the exact opposite in the Southern-Hemisphere. Physics has laws that govern these rules (look up Coriolis Effect) but I have seen many times that it is almost random on a small scale of a sink or bathtub. You need somethng much bigger like a hurricane to have these laws really come into effect.
