Average Shoe Size. Male Adult Globally, 9-12. Male Adult U.S., 10.5. In the US, the average shoe size for women is 8 wide (which surprises me, as that is my shoe size and I have a LOT of trouble finding shoes that fit comfortably).

My knees ache just looking at those.
I've taken a size 9 since I was 12. You'd be surprized if you knew all the women that had their little toe removed so they could fit into sexy, cutesy shoes.
@mcm: I could probably wear a size 5 1/2 if I had my little toe and the additional width beyond removed. I got blisters on both little toes just yesterday from taking the dog for a walk. I've had the shoes I wore for 2-3 years, so they are "stretched out". :(
