    2006 Mercury Marquis battery light came on, Charged the battery , cleaned posts and next day light came back on. Now have replaced the battery and the battery light is back on, it will go off when accessaries are turned off. Does this car need an alternator?

    Give your battery a good charge. Start the car. While the car is running, remove the red ( Positive ) cable from the battery.  If the car continues to run then the generator / Altenator is working fine. Seek another reason such as a switch staying on or being stuck. A relay stuck, any other direct connection to the battery that may be draining it.  Can also be the interior lights.
