CAN HOMEOWNER BE LIABLE FOR PETTY THIEF OF GUEST BY ANOTHER GUEST

I answered ad on craigslist for room. A woman let me in and took my deposit. She scammed me out of $535. Is the homeowners insurance liable?

I doubt it.  Contact the police or the district attorney.  File a small claims action.  Report the fraud to Craigslist.  By the way, you are going to need proof of what you are claiming in the form of a receipt for the cash (and it should state the purpose of the cash), or a rental agreement signed by both of you. Also, I think that amount would be considered more than "petty theft".

GOOD LUCK.  I feel bad for you.
