how long do I need to keep professional client files

I was a clinical member of OSP for many years. I changed to OOASP when I closed my group practice and now have a very small private practice. After I changed because they had a special category for partlly retired members, I but found that I was not a clinical member in spite of being one for at least 25 years when I was a member of OSP. . Is it possible for me to go back to OSP? At the moment I have a question about how long I must save client files. The OOASP does not have the answer for me. They do not appear to have the answer but tell me it depends on the type of file - no information about which kind of file.
