    The second is a fraction of a mean solar day a day is by convention divided into 24 hours and if you define a day link as the amount of time it takes link for the Sun link to return to a given point in the sky then divide by 24 then divide by 60 you have 1440 minutes per day. Divide again by 60 and you have 86400 seconds in one day.
