    Out of Sand, if the club follows the ball in the air and hits it, isn't this a double hit even though the sand carried it our and not the club itself.

     Aruguably ,Not really because in the initial strike the sand made contact with the ball, not the club, allthough the club did cause the initial force which enabled the ball to move, I think It became an official hit the moment the club made physical contact with the ball. cheers.
