Please check carefully on turtles before getting one for your grandkids. For some reason, I think they have a high likelihood of transmitting some disease. The kids will need to THOROUGHLY wash their hands after touching the turtles, even just petting the shell with a fingertip. If I am right biting would be a second worry.

Turtles do bite, but rarely. When we were young, people said it was good to be bitten by turtles because that was a sign of longivity (turtles have a long life).

Make sure the area of the young man's anatomy that gets bitten off is not the critical part. Otherwise, it may be "short-ivity".
