If you want music or videos or anything like that on your iphone, you'll need to sychronize it with a pc.
I suppose you could buy all that in the itunes store on the iphone, but it will be quite a hassle and cost a lot of money.

You need a pc to activate the iphone the first time.
And what if you wanted to do a restore after it crashed or anything like that?
What if you wanted to make a backup of your files?
Or if you wanted to jailbreak it (illegal in America, legal in Europe, as far as I'm aware of)?
Or if you want to remove a song you don't like?
You'll need a pc for all that.

And I'm sure there's a lot of other stuff that you need a pc for.

Besides, that's just the iphone functions that you need a pc for.
The pc has a lot of functions that the iphone doesn't have, but that should be quite obvious.
