    what is the overall role of the judiciary in shaping public policy?

    The judiciary doesn't shape public policy or only in the most indirect way. They render legal decisions based on the law and precedent.  They also decide matters of constitutionally. Policy decisions are set by the executive or adminstrative branch of the government.

    They've nothing to do with policies.. Their bag now is to interpret the Constitution, as if that makes any sense. The forefathers of this country were so much smarter than the judges, politicians, scholars, and the democrats/republicans of this country. I do believe they must have come from outer space or a gift of God, because they had all of the bases covered. Really some smart dudes.
