Why is a gallon of milk more expensive than a gallon of gasoline ?

    Makes no sense.

OK Think what goes into milk production. First the cow.. It eats, it needs a vet, it needs cleaned, it needs MILKED. Not only milked but milked twice a day 365 days a year..zorro if your sick you can call in and take a day or two off work and stay in bed, If the farmer gets sick tough $hit you still have to do the milking, Although its all automated now you still have to clean the cows before and after they milk and sanitize everything after each milking..... Now the milking is done, everything is clean, you have hundreds of gallons of milk being cooled. Then the truck shows up,,, The driver needs paid, the truck doesn't run for free HHmmm runs on gasoline. or diesel.maintenance, upkeep,  Then its brought to the milk plant where its pasteurized, homogenized , Blended. Then put on another truck {which runs on gasoline or diesel} and shipped to your store. I personally go to a small dairy farm near here and get milk right from the cow.. Taste the stuff in the store compared the fresh. not messed with or "fortified"  WOW good stuff.

Hi JDB....just read your answer and it took me back to when I lived in Wisconsin as a teenager and we bought a gallon of milk (with all that yummy cream on top!)from the local dairy for a mere 25 cents! Now those were the days....(:

Hi Carmaxable My wife never liked milk till she got a taste of "raw" milk now she loves it.

My cow runs more efficiently on a gallon of milk than she does on a gallon of gas!

Even worse when you compare it with toothpaste and nail polish remover.. :)

Because Oreo cookies taste better dunked in milk than in gasoline and because oil company CEO's are not as greedy as local farmers.

digger I'll give ya a tu but do you know that the farmers get way less that half of what the milk cost you at the store, Did you read my explanation?

JDB, I was being sarcastic. Oil company CEO's are poster boys for human greed.

Both are beneficial but I guess the milk keep's you going to buy the gas.

It can be the other way round.

    Good answer Benchong

its all tied into the daily  wholesale price for milk and gasolene

It has to do with the efficiency of production.

Most of us can get better mileage out of a gallon of milk than a gallon of gas.  It certainly lasts longer!

    got gas ?

    zorro

good one daren, yes i do from the milk. !!

It makes no sense to me because I am allergic to milk.

Australia at the moment has milk selling for $1 a litre which is cheaper than $1.50 a litre for unleaded.

8 pints of milk  Imperial gallon £4.00 or less fuel £6.37 or more per gallon

Maybe because the farmers are "milking" us.
