You go girl! I am independent, but I have seen to many victims. (MY line of work) I am divorced by choice. I am free, and love it. I shock my family, and friends. I backpack through countries alone. I have camped across country, alone, dangerous place the USA!

Sadly it usually takes two pay checks to earn a living. If you have children, it makes it harder. The children need the other parent's love and support too. It get complicated. I haven't seen to many women that are not working, making their own way. It's the men I notice more with this problem.

This is the only country that has a problem with dead beat dads. Shocking isn't it. You'd think it would be global, no it's seem to be an American thing.

I'm glad you are free, and feisty enough to make your own way! You rock!

NO DAISY!U THE GIRL!U ROCK!U MADE MY DAY DAISY!!I wish I could do what you are doing, camping, going places:-(but the kids are sometimes a little barrier to my many dreams...!even though I am recently with a new man,I am a very independent woman...I go to the movies when I want and alone when I know he will not enjoy the movie I want to see.I have never asked a man for something unless it was because I had to or just to test him and see if he will help.I pay my own bills,I take care of my things, do what I have to do,what I like doing with a smile. If I am not happy in my job=i simply resign...just did it last week...Life is 2 way beautiful and THE GREATEST BLESSING to me so why spoil it I SAY?...I have been raised by my mother even though my parents been together and I was the oldest so mom taught me to set the example..Having both European and African cultures helped shape my personality...and my spirituality increased with people I have met along the way 2 discover life...and enjoy it to the fullest.

Women, children, and elderly are 98% of the worlds victims in crime. Women are reared to be more fearful, careful, never to be alone, When I was growing up, I was told 1 out of 10 women will be raped in her life time. In college, I was given self defense courses in case attacked by a man. Having this pounded into your brain since childhood, does damage.

Women that are attacked in their homes, usually live alone, or with children. Criminal look for the easiest prey.

my question was more in the topic of being independent as in having your own money, having your own car, your house, paying your own bills when you are single mother and not wanting a man to take care of your bills for you because you as a person can do it all by yourself...To me beign an independent woman means that I am in charge of my own person,I make my rules,my decisions,I take control of my destiny,my life,I am not scared to fall, fail, learn from my mistakes.I do not ask all the times someone to do things for me...I do things for me,I rely on myself before relyign on anyone else, especially a man...I am not sexist at all just I have this strong belief that man and woman are born equal i the sight of God and we can do things men do and we do not have to fear anything.I believe that  we,women are capable of great achievements just as men are...We are strong enough to give birth so we can do anything:-))

Our culture is evolving thank God. When I was a child the adult population did not consider women as bread winners, but breeders…women were considered suitable for having children and maintaining the household while their husbands worked and earned money for the family.  When the idea that women could also work became apparent during WW2 in industry producing products for the war effort. The idea that women were to be wives and mothers only came into challenges with women’s success in the workplace.. Women had proven they could punch a clock with the guys on the job too. This increasing rise mint staunch male authority figures were facing trouble in Women’s Lib. Women are increasingly independent financially. Progress does take time and taking on the demands of positions previously held exclusively by men calls for time, talent and education. The only job that men will continue to exclusively hold is that of sperm donor and that too may some day be challenged.

U spoke the truth robertgrist...indeed...THANKS THE LORD,we know our birth rights and what God has granted us women when it comes to the right to own properties, spend and manage our own money etc...even though some cultures do not accept this fact:-(((like in Saudi Arabia and other countries that are unfair to women!!!!

I TRULY believe a woman can juggle being a mother,a wife and a independent working asset for the society:-)))

what I find unjust is that in some countries and here too in AMerica, some jobs that women do where men dominate do not get same pay...crazy but true...this should be changed...equality in all fields no matter gender

    We agree.

perhaps its something to do with upbringing and background? im probably lucky that i am pretty independant,i wouldnt want to have to rely on someone else
