    iTunes
Voice Memo app (for iPod touch only)
    External iPod microphone

    Instructions
Record Music with iPod Nano's Built-in Mic

    1
Select "Extras" from the main menu and then select "Voice Memo."

    2
Choose the recording quality from the options available. "Low Quality" records in mono at 22 kHz and "High Quality" records in stereo at 44.1 kHz.

    3
Press the center button on your iPod to begin recording and press it again to pause. When you are finished, press the "Menu" button on your iPod and then select "Stop and Save." To playback a recording, select "Extras" then "Voice Memos" and then select a recording.

Record Music on iPod Classic or Nano Using an External Microphone

    4
Connect your external microphone to your iPod via the 30-pin docking port on the bottom of your device.

    5
Select "Voice Memo" from the main menu on your iPod. The "Voice Memo" option is only available if you have a microphone plugged in or if you have previously saved recordings on your iPod.

    6
Select the center button to begin recording and press it again to pause. When you are finished, press the "Menu" button on your iPod and then select "Stop and Save." To playback a recording on an iPod Nano (fifth generation), go to the main menu and choose "Extras" then "Voice Memos" and select a recording, otherwise choose "Voice Memos" from the main menu and then select "Recordings" and choose from the list available.
