I had one and I trained her to do so many tricks and I could tell her to sit and stay. I could then walk two fields away and look around ans she would still be sitting. I then raised my hand and she would stand up. Drop my hand and she would come to me. I loved her. At 7 she became ill and was put down. It broke my heart.

never had one but have been led to believe they are,certainly lovely dogs

I had a Golden, and she was very smart. I never put her through any obediance schools, and she was easier to train at home than my Lab that has gone through schools. Also the the Golden was much more laid back than any other dog I owned, even as a pup

Yes. They are grate but clumpsy and loveable.  They make a great pet. Good with kids.
