I think it's bum rap syndrome, jordon. Blacks, by and large, were being portrayed as villians or bad people or criminals in the past. I think the trend is thankfully changing as the major actors are now playing the good guys and having leading roles. It's more a perception based on ignorance and not much to do with the reality.
Asians today are more accepting of black people, and vice versa, I believe.
