      humalog insulin acts in 5 minutes.  Humulin is longer to take effect.  It depends on what kind of humulin your referring to.  If its regular, it takes 30 minutes (so it should be taken 30 minutes before meals), if it's humulin  (NPH) , it 's onset and duration is longer.
