Dr. Brockman: I took my just-after-breakfast blood sugar test today. It was 188. Yesterday at the same time it was 221. I have been taking my 2 metformin pills with breakfast. Could it be that I need more Metformin? I am going to take 2 Metformin tonight just before bedtime. If tomorrow's early blood sugar is low, it seems that could be that what I am taking doesn't last a full 24 hours. Comments?

It's my understanding as a LPN, that you're supposed to test your blood sugar BEFORE breakfast. . . . . THEN take the pills before breakfast too. But, don't do it just b/c I tell you to. Go to your doctor, or get a different doctor and tell him / her that your blood sugar is way too high. Maybe you need different medication , or to lose weight and exercise.
