    Why didn't he fight for the Christians against the Muslims during the Crusades...?

      He did fight against the Muslims. "He went on to lead the Castilian military campaigns against Sancho's brothers, the rulers of the kingdoms of Leonand Galicia as well as against the Muslim kingdoms in Andalusia."
