    can your money be seized if it's in a joint account with somebody you are not related too or married too

    If you are talking about the government taking your money, you bet it can.  In a joint account, every penny is as much yours as the other guy....and, consequently, the government (I'm thinking IRS?).

    In the U.S., it can be seized.

    Yes. I know somebody who that happened to . The person that you have a joint account with can take all the money out of there without your knowledge.....and move out of state.....and it's perfectly legal. Doesn't matter if you're related to him/ her or not.
