My dad made his own O guage model trains from scratch and even laid the ties and tracks by hand and engineered the crossings without a kit or a diagram. I do know that O guage is roughly the same size as the old Lional trains. Then, there's H O , which is smaller and N-guage , which is quite a small lay-out.
