    why is my air conditioner freezing up

    Condensation. In hot weather, the condensation builds up and causes ice. This happens faster in humid weather. You have to turn off the a/c for a hour or so to let the ice melt.

    This is a problem we deal with constantly in our humid part of the world.
    We turn the a/c down to "Fan Only" for an hour or so.It still blows cold air because of the ice.

    Good suggestion. I have window a/c units so they do not freeze up like central air does.

    because the thermostat is set too high.So ,It's on all the time, and  the motor is overworking  to get the room temp colder and colder.I'm surprized it didn't blow a fuse.
