Tips to avoid bed bugs in Laundromats:

    • Make certain that you keep your clothes away from anyone else’s clothes or other clutter to ensure that bed bugs don’t hitch a ride home with your freshly laundered clothing

    • Also keep your clothes in sealed, bed bug proof laundry bags as long as possible – unzip laundry bag immediately before washing and zip it up in a clean one after a washing.

    • Make sure to use two bed bug laundry bags – one before and one after washing.

    • If you must put your clothes down on a surface, it is best to choose a clean and elevated surface that is NOT made of wood, paper or plaster, as these surfaces are easiest for bed bugs to climb up and infest your clothing.

    • Before you put your clothes into the machines do a quick check for bed bugs, bed bug eggs etc. Looking at the lint filter may also help.

    • Make sure there are no left behind items from the last person to have used the machine.

    • Also make sure the person before you didn’t leave any clothes in the machines, especially dirty clothes.

    • Don’t forget to empty the lint tray from the dryer before and after and dispose of contents outside the Laundromat.

    • Make sure to use the hottest cycle they’ve got. Ideally above 120 degrees Fahrenheit. This should kill any bed bugs and their eggs.

    • Can’t put your clothes at such high temperatures? Before you leave home, leave your clothes in the sun for a few days, or the freezer even – bed bugs can’t live in extreme temperatures anywhere.

    • Before bringing your laundry bag and clothes back into your house, do a quick search of the exterior to make sure no last minute hitchhikers got onto your bag.

What an excellent resource you provided, CB! I just read about a guy who tried to kill the BBs with fire and burned down his whole house. Got rid of them, he did...

    Two thumbs up, C B !

Cicada nymphs survive by suckling on the nutritious fluid slowly pumping through the xylem of trees – xylem is to trees what veins and arteries are to you and me. link The fluid rises from the roots of the tree and it's rich link in nutrients, link and on this bounty the cicada nymphs eke out their silent living. The composition of the fluid changes with the seasons, and somehow, the nymphs can sense and count the achingly slow, years-long swinging of this chemical pendulum.
