For something simple like a small amount, you can go to the District Court and file it with the small claims court.  They have all the forms ready and they will help you fill the paperwork as well.  Anything over a couple of thousand dollars, consult an attorney would not be a bad idea.

My son had his car towed away and had to pay the towing company nearly $500.  We took him to small claims court and won a judgment against him.  it was easy to file and my son did it all himself.  He was 18 or 19 at the time.

How to file a lawsuit?...very carefully...do your research...ask people that you know and trust for attorney referrals...can't be too carefull....too many shysters out there!
