      It all depends on the type of aircraft you are asking about.Usually,millitary aircraft are much faster than comercial planes.The US Air Force's SR-71"Blackbird' holds the fastest air speed record at 2,193 miles per hour( mach 3+). This record still stands today as the fastest known air breathing jet plane.
