My husband ran up a debt on a charge card i knew nothing about in feb 2006 he defaulted on the credit card for $8400.00. In Feb 2009 there was a lien put on his name. I found out about a week ago when i was trying to refinance our jointly owned home that there is a lien on the home for $15,790.00. The lien does not expire until Feb 2018. My husband said he did not know about the lien but I can't trust his word. I never receive any notice. a letter my have came in the mail and my husband could have thrown it away. Is it legal not to send me a certified letter to inform me on the lien since I am co- owner of the house? is it legal to have a lien that is not the correct amount?I beleive the difference in the default amount for
$ 8400.00 must be the interest added until the lien expires in Feb 2018. Is that legal? What oppitions do i have to get this lien off my home?

Where do you live and where is the property? There is a website where you can post a question anonymously and have lawyers answer, www.avvo.com. Warning: Some of the lawyers there are truly incompetent, but some are really smart. I've received some good advice from them.
