my 1995 dodge avenger es makes a sudden jerking stop every time i am about to come to a full stop. could that be the transmission beginning to fail? i know the brakes are still good. it gets very scary every time i know i have to stop. please advise.

I had the same problem with my 2000 Honda Accord end of last year. I sent it to an auto shop. They changed the transmission oil. No more problem thereafter.

Your advise was very helpful. I checked my transmission fluid level while the engine was idling and found out that the fluid was low. I added about one pint into it and drove around the block. The problem disappeared right there and then. Now the car is running great again. Thanks for the advise, It surely helped!
Glad to hear that. I paid $50 for the change of transmission oil. The dealer would charge much higher. As you did it yourself, I believe you saved a lot of money. Good job!
