A device designed to step up or step down voltage. It consist of secondary and primary windings.

Most every electronic device has a transformer, usually as a step down from high voltage to low voltage ..

Not always, I have a neighbor that is ugly, she goes once per month, when she comes out she's still ugly but with a beautiful hairstyle.. We always complement her hairstyle. "
You can put lipstick on a pig but its still a pig.."

Transformer is an electrical device which alters the alternating voltage(current).

i.e. it converts the high alternating voltage(or low current) to low alternating voltage(or high current) and vice-versa.

Talking about its construction, it consist of laminated iron core wounded up by the wire.

The winding through which voltage(or current) enters is called primary winding

and the winding through which voltage(or current) leaves to the load is called secondary winding.

The transformer works on the phenomenon of mutual induction.

Note: The naked wire cannot be use to make the transformer, since electric shock takes place due to short circuiting.

I think you have known about the transformer to some extent and its working principle.
