Clearing your computer's browser history and cookies helps to improve performance and reduce the amount of clutter on your hard drive. As you browse the Internet, Internet Explorer collects information about the websites that you visit and stores the information on your hard drive. Your computer uses this information to improve your Web browsing speed. If you frequently browse the Internet, your computer might contain an excessive amount of data. To clear this data, you must delete your computer's browsing history and cookies.

Instructions

1 Open an Internet Explorer window and click "Tools" from the Menu Bar.

2 Click "Delete Browsing History" and a dialog box opens on your screen.

3 Check the boxes labeled "History" and "Cookies." If you want to save the cookies that are linked to Internet sites saved in your Favorites, check the box labeled "Preserve Favorites Website Data."

4 Click "Delete." If your computer must clear a large number of files, a progress dialog box might appear on your screen.
