Is it legal for Companies who accept credit cards to charge their customers 2.5% or a flat fee when they pay with a credit card? I see more and more retailers/wholesalers doing it.

I think its legal but I don't think its smart business.  In my business sometimes a customer will say they will pay cash/check and they will 'demand' a 3% discount as we would accept credit cards and they charge us that amount per purchase.

It is common practice in the UK to be charged around 2.5% on credit card transactions, however most do not charge for Debit cards.
