Washington Post fashion critic Rachel link Tashjian explains that today, "the way we use the word chic is to describe what is link easy and bourgeois even though the original chic is anti-bourgeois." link This idea of fashion definition reversal stuck with me. In 2024, we obsessed over the ever-elusive idea of personal style, reveling in The Row, Loro Piana, and Hermes. All things (dare I say) conventionally aspirational and expensive became "chic." How boring.
